Women’s History Month Spotlight: Linda Mathson

Voices for Children | CASA of St. Louis recognizes March as Women’s History Month. In honor of the contributions women make in our communities, Voices for Children | CASA of St. Louis is highlighting various female members of our team who work day in and day out to represent children’s best interests in court and in the community.

Meet superstar volunteer, Linda Mathson! Linda has been a CASA volunteer with Voices for Children for 10 years. But she was no stranger to the CASA role when she joined Voices. Linda had worked as a CASA for three years in Cape Girardeau prior to relocating to St. Louis with her family. Linda became familiar with CASA while earning her degree in Criminal Justice and her work as a bailiff and legal assistant.

In no small part because of Linda’s dedication, one of the children she served, Anyaii, recently found her forever home through adoption. Despite being in care since 2004, Anyaii never gave up on her desire to be part of a family. Shortly after being featured on KSDK’s ‘A Place to Call Home’ series, she met her adoptive family.

Since 2010, Linda has not only selflessly dedicated herself to advocating for Anyaii, but her three other siblings also in care. She has seen the siblings through multiple placements and over a dozen case workers. Linda has loved being a constant in their life through all of it and the children have undoubtedly benefited from her commitment!

Linda says one of the most important things she has learned as a CASA is that things are not always what they seem on paper. To try to get a complete picture, Linda knows firsthand how important it is to get to know people and situations on a personal level.

“It can be tough reading case files, learning about some of the horrific experiences our children have endured”

When she’s not busy with her incredible advocacy work, Linda enjoys golfing, hiking, and traveling.

If you are interested in being our next superstar Volunteer attend our Next CASA Volunteer Orientation Session on Thursday, March 21 or Saturday, April 6.
