How It Works
Becoming a CASA volunteer is a meaningful way to make a lasting difference in the life of a child in foster care. Here’s what the process looks like from start to finish:
1. Attend a Virtual Informational Session
Learn more about the role of a CASA volunteer, the children we serve, and what to expect throughout the volunteer journey. Information Sessions are a chance to ask questions and determine if CASA is the right fit for you.
2. Submit Your Application
Complete the volunteer application and provide basic information about yourself, your background, and your interest in becoming a CASA volunteer.
3. Participate in an Interview
Meet with a member of our team for a conversation about your experiences, expectations, and commitment to advocating for children in foster care.
4. Complete Background Checks
All CASA volunteers complete required background screenings and reference checks to help ensure the safety and well-being of the children we serve.
5. Attend Pre-Service Training
Receive comprehensive training that prepares you to advocate effectively in the child welfare and court systems. Training covers topics such as trauma, child development, advocacy, and courtroom procedures.
6. Be Sworn In as a CASA Volunteer
After successfully completing training and screening requirements, you’ll officially be sworn in by a judge as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.
7. Get Matched with a Child or Sibling Group
You’ll be assigned to a case and begin building a consistent relationship with the child or sibling group you advocate for.
8. Advocate for a Child’s Best Interests
As a CASA volunteer, you’ll stay connected with the child, collaborate with professionals involved in the case, and provide informed recommendations to the court to help ensure the child’s needs are being met.
